Go watch “The Boat That Guy Built”.

Search for it on Youtube, it’s pretty much all there (apart from episode 5 part 1, boohoo). Guy Martin is a fucking CHAMP. Even if sometimes I’ve no clue what he’s saying. Basically it’s Guy (Isle of Mann TT rider, lorry mechanic, top bloke, bit of a character, best sideburns ever, likes a brew) and a mate of his restoring a narrow boat (canal boat) using technologies, processes and objects invented in the Industrial Revolution. I so want to do that one day, spend my time dicking about with home made blast furnaces and living in my coveralls (my boyfriend gave me a pair for Valentine’s Day with me name embroidered on em and everything and I haven’t had an excuse to wear em yet!).

Three awesome things: A rainbow, a skud18 sailing boat, and my boyfriend. This is outside my parent’s house. Their neighbour is wheelchair bound but very active, and this boat (the skud) was parked outside his place last time I went over. It’s designed to be used by sailors with mobility impairments. The skipper and crew sit in moulded seats which are more secure, and the boat has a weighted keel and is built to be much more stable, and also designed so that if it tips on its side, even a completely paralysed sailor will have their head above water. It’s a very neat design and you can see some videos on youtube of it in action. I recently learnt how to sail dinghies and I loved it so was really interested to see this boat. Shame the weather’s getting cold here now so it’s not really sailing weather…maybe I just need to harden up!
